Nesting Season
I witnessed Nature in all its rawness at the pond today.
This duck was sitting on her eggs and the Canada Goose, who’s partner was sitting on their nest on the other side of the little island was viciously attacking the duck and forcing her off the nest. At one point they were each calling for reinforcements, none came.
Here she is having retreated to the edge of the island, then she turned and went back to her nest. The attack & retreat happened several times - eventually the goose moved away and the duck settled on her nest again. I hope she was left in peace.
Meanwhile other geese were making a terrific racket squaking ferociously whilst flying after each other to gain ground, or maybe gain a female...
I’ve not witnessed this behaviour before & it was distressing and fascinating in equal measure.
It’s the WWF Earth Hour tonight at 8.30 local time. Wherever we are in the world we are asked to turn off the lights for one hour. If as many of us as can were to do this, just think of how much power would be saved, how much less polution would be released into the atmosphere, in that hour alone.
Please join me in doing this, if you are able to/would like to. Thank you.
