Luca

Scotland has a long and laudable tradition of welcoming immigrant populations - Jews, Italians, Chinese, Asians, East Europeans, each following another. The Italian immigration was greatest at the end of the 1800's. They came to escape drought, famine and poverty in their homeland for a better life in Scotland; yet it was not until World War I that a sizeable population of Italian-Scots-over 4,000-began to emerge, with Glasgow hosting the third largest community in the United Kingdom.

The large majority of these immigrants came from the Lucca area in Tiscany.

But this Luca (with one "C") came from Casino - rather it was his first name. Luca Scappaticcio was a barber who became a pastry chef, learned to make ice cream, and founded a dynasty.
