Former bakery
This site of national heritage is really close to the eldest’s primary school. So close that we normally just walk past it.
The former bread bakery was built in 1932 and has a striking appearance. Its facade exhibits a relationship with ‘the Style’ type architecture (De Stijl) in both material use and composition. The abstract front is dominated by a large, white-plastered surface on which architect S. Barenburg has 'played' with primary colors and with a play of horizontal and vertical lines.
On the left-hand side of the facade there is an arched gate that provides access to an open courtyard. In the right-hand side of the facade three types of glass are used. A narrow concrete canopy has been placed between the two floors with the text "bread bakery" (broodbakkerij) in iron lettering. In 1994, the Kinkorn design office moved into the building. The interior with the characteristic oven and tiling, however, is still in almost original condition. This national monument is quite unique, even in the Netherlands.
