Woolmers

Today’s outing was to Woolmers Estate which is the site of a successful early Australian Settler. Thomas Archer from England was given land in 1817 along with convicts who were assigned to provide free labour, they were mostly the well behaved convicts and worked hard. After 7 years they were given freedom and many remained on the property as free labourers. The family had 6 Thomas Archers until the last unmarried one passed away in 1995. He had set up a foundation which now runs the estate. It is a classified World Heritage Site.

This blip is the carriage house.

No mention was made of the Aboriginal people who had lived in this area for generations....they were all driven out.
