Our Mulberry Bush
Though it's really a tree.
Many, many years ago, Karen, Graham and I spent a bank holiday weekend in Sussex. One of the highlights of that weekend was visiting the Litlington Tea Garden which had the most magnificent Mulberry tree which was full of delicious fruit.
Weeks later, Karen purchased a packet of Mulberry seeds that were duly planted and eventually grew into saplings that lived (and grew) in pots on the balcony of my flat.
When Sarah & I married, we moved two of the pots into our garden and planted the mulberry bushes. They grew like wild fire.
Each year, I pollard the trees for fear of them sucking all the moisture from the ground and causing subsidence.
I've always felt quite sad about cutting them back so Sarah & I decided to donate a mulberry tree to the new orchard at our local Wildlife Trust site.
Today we helped to plant our tree.
