Village Workers in Spring
Each spring the Oxford Village Maintenance department comes around in their cute red truck to repair the damage the winter snowplows have caused. Here they are shoveling the soil back onto the corner of my property and smoothing it out.
By unanimous agreement we do not have sidewalks in our part of the village. That is three streets. Practical reason: if we had concrete sidewalks each homeowner would be reasponsible for clearing the ice and snow off after each snowfall (which can mean daily shoveling). Fines can be assesed.
People just walk on the streets. We have very little auto traffic. When clearing away the snow, the plows often dig up the edges where the grass meets the pavement. In the spring this damage becomes apparent.
It is a definite sign of spring to see the happy workers out fixing the soil back where it should be.
Our Village taxes at work.
