This is Mike Berners-Lee. He is a professor at Lancaster University and his research includes sustainable food systems and carbon metrics. He is the author of three books including ‘There is No Planet B’. To get it out of the way, he is the brother of a famous person with the same surname.
Mike came to visit and talk to us at the Preston New Road Fracking site. He said that in order to overcome the problems the world faces, there needs to be a system change. We need to rethink our values and search for truth. We also need to think on a global scale. Fossil fuels should stay in the ground, and the idea that fracked gas is a stepping stone to a sustainable future is nonsense and does not stand up to scientific scrutiny. We should hold our politicians accountable and let them know that we are not prepared to put up with lies. He came over as a kind, honest and caring person, and it was great to meet and talk to him.

The extra photo is for your amusement. Bright sparks thought it would be a good idea to put a stop to women protestors tying ribbons and material to produce fence art, so they wrapped fine netting around their outer fence. Women simply turned up with some thread and their embroidery and upholstery needles. If you think about it, that netting could be a beautiful canvas for some very nice embroidery.
