Peeling Paint Inspection

Today we had the second day of our classic car basic maintenance course at Bicester Heritage. We knew a few other students were bringing their classics along today, our Triumph is currently away for some engine work so we took our modern classic, the Lotus Elise. There was lots more practical learning today, oil changes, checking and topping up gearbox and differential oil, brake inspection and simple adjustments. We then looked at paintwork, bodywork and under the car. There was advice on all the regular checks you can make, the precautionary stuff you can do to prevent longer term issues and that included paintwork and brightwork. 

Brains now filled, we had a look at the underneath of a few students cars, a 1960s MGB, a 1970s Lotus Elan, a late 1970s Mercedes and a 1980s Porsche 911. Having got more familiar with what we were looking for underneath cars, it was surprising how similar some components were to identify but also just how different the layouts could be.

We've learnt so much in these two days so maybe we'll get a bit braver on the Triumph when it returns! A quick blip of our Lotus against one of the huge old aircraft hangers on the site in the lunchtime sunshine.
