Handwriting

More overdue tasks were plodded through, including some more seasonal greetings.

I can only bring myself to do this if I get out my fountain pen so that the writing is more pleasurable. This was at the end of the first pen-full of ink. But I find that my handwriting ability (never great) has atrophied considerably; I guess that the only stuff I regularly write by hand is in mathematical symbols. In these days of keyboards and touch screens, shall we lose the ability to write by hand entirely, I wonder? Feel free to discuss amongst yourselves....

This reminds me that I see increasing numbers of moans from students that they cannot read their tutor's handwriting. Is this due to the handwriting getting worse in general, or the fact that the students hardly ever have to read anything that isn't typeset? Probably both.
