Clearance

Today the local charity that does house clearance came in and emptied what was left in my parents home.

When we were looking at sheltered accommodation for them, this walk-in cupboard was a real gift; after all, couples in their 80’s, downsizing for the umpteenth time, still need loads of storage.

Anyway, being there before & after work, beginning and end of the task, felt very heavy. Dad had spent so much time and energy getting themselves comfortable. The amount of disabled kit as well was phenomenal.

So it’s the end of my clearing it out, which has taken 2 months of lugging and sorting and dump and charity shop runs. Now Elbows and I are going to get it ready to sell.

Dads very heavy desk that he designed and their dining room chairs, re-upholstered many times, part of their home since moving to England in the late 70’s, are not to be seen again. How sadly strange is this whole part of life. We get older and our responsibilities don’t stop, they just keep changing focus.
