Grrr Part 3

I set off for the allotment with my tool box - adjustable spanner, toothbrush and bicarbonate of soda for cleaning the connectors, WD40, rag, vaseline, wire strippers, Stanley knife, electrical tape! As I began to disconnect things I saw one of the wires to the transformer had broken off. Found the culprit! I stripped the wire back and tried removing the knob to connect it back - no luck - after trying for ages i gave up and did a Heath Robinson by wrapping the wire round the metal! Then I wrapped the electrical tape round it and tried turning it on. I could have wept - flashing alternate red and green! I cut my loses and decided to go buy a new transformer!
Lucky I asked the assistants advice on the one I selected - it was for sheep netting not the more power exhaustive hen netting! I also bought a proper earth stake as in wet weather the ground does get water logged. I then had a relaxing walk with Oscar along the river in the sunshine!
On returning to the plot what did I discover? The transformer was flashing green! I swore! Then decided to attach the new one as the thought of the problem recurring next week was just too much for me! It did cross my mind that the problem might have been the earth - we had been using a tent peg - the one I bought was a metre in length! ( I wasn't the one who initially set up the electric fence so I accept no responsibility for this major error! ) So instead of a fortune on new battery, battery charger and transformer it might have just needed £5 on a earth stake! Shhh! Don't tell the rest of the coop!
