An afternoon in the garden. Almost Spring Equinox.
After our morning walk and lunch I set to and began to prune the roses.
My dad used to do his twice a year, in November and March. A light prune in autumn and a harder one in spring.
He taught me how to use the secateurs and where to make the cuts.
I now do my own twice a year and think of him and his own beloved roses.
My mum loved them. He had green fingers and all kinds of varieties from Queen Elizabeth's to Ingrid Bergman.
It was a bonus of an afternoon with some spring sunshine and lighter winds!
Plenty to keep me occupied in the flower beds, hoeing and weeding.
