Back side of the Black Volcano
This is the back and side of the Black Volcano from the top of the JA Volcano photographed in digital IR. These two are part of the 5 Albuquerque Volcanoes which in turn are part of Volcano Unit of Petroglyp National Monument. They are on the West Mesa to the west of Albuquerque. There are also some tiny cones and some pressure ridges in addition to lots of basalt. This chain of volcanoes is about 150,000 years old.
I love these volcanoes and I think the puppy and I have a new favorite hiking place. We walked for a couple of hours and only stopped because it got dark. I had fun with the IR camera, and Joe indulged in his favorite hobbies of running and sniffing by running full tilt with his nose pressed to the ground. It looks dangerous to me but he doesn't care about my opinion on this.
Today I give thanks for the day I was given, that I can hike and enjoy the world around me, my typing assistant cats and my hiking buddy Joe.
