The Bayeux Tapestry.

Today was our final day in France so we decided to fit in a visit to the famous town of Bayeux to visit the tapestry. A pleasant breakfast followed by checkout and we were off to Bayeux through the scenic Normandy countryside. I do love the pretty village and architecture of this area of France. The weather today was sunny, warm (16oC) but very ,very windy!

We were so lucky as the Tapesrtry exhibition was virtually empty which meant that we were able to see the whole extraordinary artefact so close up and at our leisure. A fantastic thing to behold and soooo glad we made time to visit it.

Then it was lunch and off to purchase our wine supplies. This took a great deal of consideration as you might imagine ! Once our wine was purchased and packed away we were off to a very nice little restaurant in Ouistreham for supper before heading for the Ferry.

As we sat and ate we had a good view of lorries coming into the port, and they were coming at some considerable speed. The answer to this was to try to outwit the immigrants who suddenly appeared as dusk fell and the lorries arrived. Then began the nightly ritual of them trying to get into the trailers by running after them and trying to open the back doors. One did actually succeed in opening the back but not too sure he managed to jump on board. The desperation of these people must be very high to try what they do.

As the lorries all finished arriving so the immigrants vanished as quickly as they had appeared. Then it was time for us to book in and begin the boarding process.

By 11:30pm we were finally aboard and on our way home. We were both very tired by the time we settled down!
