Soldier Fly

I came face to face with this garden soldier fly today, and what an interesting face it has. A top view is here. Note the impressive spikes in both shots.

Today is St. Patrick’s Day, but I don’t feel much like celebrating. The death toll is now fifty. It’s just too horrendous.
