Ranunculus ficaria
Lesser Celandines have always been a favourite of mine. As a child I remember seeing them growing under the hedge when I was going to the park opposite our house.
I think it it is the bright colour so early in the spring season that attracts me to them. Wandering round Kanyl's garden today I spotted a few growing among his Raspberry canes.
There seems to be a little confusion over the scientific name. The Woodland Trust Plant Life etc refer to it as Ranunculus (Buttercup family) while others seem to put it in the Ficaria genus as F verna. I suspect the Ficaria is more modern but I will stick with what I have always known it as R ficaria.
