Walsall Saddle

Back on the sculpture trail today.  And Walsall was desperately cold and windy but the sun was out - a little too out for some of the sculptures. The Walsall Saddle was the one we thought would be the easiest to find, but as you can see, it was Market Day and the Saddle was squeezed in between market stalls and phone boxes and not many of the locals seemed to know where it was.  It was smaller than I expected, but the colours were beautiful and I really thought the saddle was leather from a distance.  The delicacy of the hand, combined with the engravings of tasks performed by the leather workers of Walsall, are representative of the skill and strength of this workforce.  There are two leather cutting tools on the saddle.

It's a long time since I have wandered the streets of Walsall.  The market was excellent - a colourful representation of the diversity of the community.  Some of the old buildings were fascinating but there were too many modern boxes for my liking.

On the care home move front - as suspected, no move today due to the ward still being closed - maybe tomorrow, more likely Wednesday.  I feel very sorry for Mom being stuck there with no visitors.  I hope the nurses are spending some time with her.  On the missing teeth front, I apparently have to go into the hospital to fill out a claim form, but nobody seems to know where the claim form will come from.  And if she wants some replacement dentures, I will either have to try to get her to a dentist, or hope that the care home have a dentist who comes in to see the residents...  Oh dear!
