The Scottish connection - Taiwan day 4
We left Pingtung thismorned and headed west, dropping off £2 soon at the airport in Kaohsiung on the way as he c was going back to KL for work.
The first stop was the island of Within by ferry. It was pretty warm and humid. We had a walk round the hand through the Star Tunnel built by the Japanese. On the sea side is this memorial to Jane's Laidlaw Maxwell who was s medical missionary from Edinburgh and brought modern medicine to S Taiwan in the 19 century through the English Presbyterian Mission. Wen Hui and I, both EU graduates, stood the memorial to this third EU graduate.
The walk was followed by an amazing seafood lunch, 10 dishes, and then some free time to have a look at the stalls. Then back on the bus and of to visit a park with painted pagodas and statues. We had 90 minutes there, about 45 minutes too long, and no code shops. This is allegedly the most attractive place in the area.
It was beginning to rain but back on the bus to head V towards Tainan via the Moon Park which is a geological feature like a moonscape. It was 5 minutes before dark by the time we got there.
We are now in Tainan. Unlike the UK we have dinner (tonight NE mainland China hotpot restaurant) and then check in to the hotel. Here it is the other way round. Luckily sanity kicked in and as it was raining the visit to the Night Market was cancelled. The kids are tired and cranky, especially Amelia. Bus trips are not ideal for a 2 year old but this hotel has s great play area. Just shame we didn't get here earlier.
The bride and groom have now joined us.
