Time of Mourning

This morning I posted a picture taken yesterday. Hours later I heard of the violence in Connecticut that left twenty small children and seven or more adults dead from more gunshots. Unbearable suffering.

I cannot think about pictures. All I can think about is the families of those who just died, the families all over the world whose children fall victim to violence. All the children are our children. Whether the children are in Afghanistan, Darfur, Gaza, Israel, Guatemala, Norway, or Connecticut, they are all our children. Our job is to protect them, to love them, to give them all we have.

I'm going to close the computer now, turn off the media, and go walk for a long time, holding this sorrow. We keep failing to protect the children. What can we do to protect them? I hope everyone asks this question.
