More friends

A day with friends and colleagues. My day started with a friend who’s from Peru, now married to an Egyptian. He helped her cross the road and the rest, they say, is history. Lovely chat today. Then a beer with Rita whom I used to write with. Always lovely to catch up with. Followed by drinks and pizza with S. We lived in the same building so it was nice to go back home. And literally later in the evening as the soirée moved upstairs to allow S to get over his cold. There were former colleagues like A, pictured, newcomers to Cairo and one of my current colleagues from Q8 too. A bit emotional being back in my old apartment. A walked me home and when we went downstairs we met the son and his wife of my old doorman. They told us he’d recently passed. Sad news indeed. I cried a bit. He was a bit of a grump, but with a good heart, and you knew he was keeping us safe. Old and frail but with resilience and determination.
