Musical Memories
We visited my sister Sue and brother- in-law Tony today in Southport. I was telling them that we will be taking part in Skipton Narrowboat Festival in May and the theme is 'Swinging 60's'. I said I was looking for old 45 rpm records to hang along the side of the boat and guess what! Sue had some in the attic :-D.
We took our cuppas up there to peruse the old vinyls and found that some of them were mine from when I was in my early teens - The Monkees, The Herd, The Jackson 5, Gilbert O'Sullivan, Diana Ross and the Supremes, Donovan! (I had written 'I Love Donovan' on these). Even the record labels filled me with joy! Decca, Fontana, RCA Victor, Motown. Sue still had her Beatles singles too.
One record was Zorba's Dance and I got excited about the memories. I reminded Sue that Mum had given us some money once - enough for six singles - when I was about 8 and Sue about 12; we were allowed to choose them ourselves but I can only remember four of the titles we bought:
Zorba's Dance
A Walk in the Black Forest
My Boy Lollipop
Riding Along in My Automobile
Anyway I came away with a pile of old records to decorate the boat with; we'll string them along the side like bunting.
Thanks Sue - for the memories and the 'bunting'! ;-)
