I don't know where the name comes from - Google isn't helpful - but I stand in front of the Navaar House Hotel every morning waiting for my bus to work. It's not an unattractive building.

The past two days a lot of time has been taken up putting in a bid for two postdoctoral researchers, in response to a call funded by a huge amount of money to try to make Edinburgh the "Data Science capital of Europe". I don't believe in it for a moment, but could make good use of another person, and my industrial activities make me a good fit with so me of the aspirations of the call, so I'll bid. Even if I get nothing, trying wins me Brownie points I can trade for something else.
