Three Old Arches
Back to the cold and rain of Chester today. These are the Three Old Arches incorporating Chester Rows and it is a Grade 1 listed building. It is considered the oldest existing shop frontage in the country. This is the building at row level and underneath this is a babyware shop. I did take a photo of the whole building but it don't look very good.
The Three Old Arches at number 48 Bridge Street was built in the 13th century and extended into number 50 the following century when it formed the largest known medieval town house in the rows. A stone walled hall at row level extending between the houses was the largest hall measuring 36ft by 24ft.
