Ancient Shepherds
Whilst walking along Dundee’s Seagate, I spotted this rather corroded and open post box. I was intrigued by the name, and I think it makes an interesting photo.
I have researched the organisation known as Shepherds Friendly Society and founded on Christmas Day in 1826. It was later renamed as per the letter box.
"Loyal’ refers to the Crown and ‘Shepherds" refers to the Nativity of Jesus.
Although still in existence as a financial services organisation I think that this branch closed some time ago.
I noticed that they presented two lifeboats in the 1800s to the RNLI.
