The Fairy Tree
The Hawthorn blossom is so pretty and the scent is delightful. It is very early this year, it is not meant to bloom until May.
In Celtic mythology it is said that the Hawthorn tree is inhabited by faeries.
Thomas the Rhymer - 13th century mystic and poet - was led by a faery he met by a Hawthorn bush, into the underworld for a brief rendezvous. However on returning to the mortal world he found he had been absent for 7 years.
Our road is called Haw Grove which leads onto Haw Lane which is a track onto the Yorkshire Dales National Park. There are Hawthorn trees and bushes all the way along.
Hawthorn is said to bring good luck to the owner of the tree and prosperity to the land on which it grows.
