Three Steps for Lent

Interesting learning more about Lent, being involved with a Catholic church - this is from the Pope's homily today, where he said that Lent is a time to rediscover your direction in life, and how the ash reminds us that a lot of what we chase after will not last:

Pope Francis reminded the faithful that the Gospel proposes three steps that are to be undertaken without hypocrisy and pretence: almsgiving, prayer, fasting.
He said they are practices that bring us back to the three realities that do not fade away: “Prayer reunites us to God; charity, to our neighbour; fasting, to ourselves”.

So - not just giving something up (that's the fasting), but praying and giving. We are still working out what to do, but the fasting will involve less time on the internet. Not going to stop Blipping, though!

It's been incredibly windy today, with bits of rain. Went to Spain to buy wire netting to protect our new trees from the sheep, but they were out of it, so Mike just planted the grapevines, which are in the garden.

Now off to the Ash Wednesday service at the church in the castle...

Gratefuls:
- a more relaxed day
- actually getting a wash done and dried, in spite of the weather
- four grapevines planted and some other gardening done
