Simple pleasures

It seems totally strange to be writing this (as my family will testify), but I have spent another really enjoyable day in the kitchen. During my working years, and perhaps even my stay-at-home-mum years, I was a reluctant cook. I didn’t like being closed away in the kitchen while everyone else did much more interesting (to me) things elsewhere.

Retirement has been a bit of a revelation, cooking-wise. Now that I have time to cook I really enjoy it! I love searching through recipe books for new things to try and we don’t get take-away Indian or Chinese food so much as I can make it myself.

So to today....my MIL comes to us for dinner on Tuesdays but she likes plain food. This is why two of the salmon fillets in the photo have a ‘crust’ and two have none - the Ards Man being undecided, he will have one of each! I also made a cake from the Ottolenghi ‘Simple’ cookbook. And it was! Of course, the taste test is yet to come :)
