A long walk

At 10:00 we were collected by the guide for our morning walk around the city, we then continued towards the starting point collecting other walkers along the way. So we had done quite a long walk before we officially started. We were quite a big group and were then split into languages, the English language group was then subdivided into two groups. Although we were in one of the English language groups, I think we were the only native English speakers in the group.

The walk started at Puerto Jerez and finished at Plaza de Espagna, probably not very far as the crow flies, but it took us three hours as we meandered through the main sights in the city centre. A guided walk I find is a good way to get an introduction to a city. It helps especially in a city like Seville which has a labyrinthine mass of very narrow streets in the old part of the city.

Our hotel was on the edge of this maze, and even after several days we would find ourselves in a small plaza we had not passed through previously.

When the walk concluded we had a light lunch at a cafe in the Maria Luisa park. Getting back to the hotel in the late afternoon we had a couple of hours on the roof terrace of the hotel enjoying the sunshine.

The picture is taken in Plaza de Espagna at the end of the walk. This was part of the park complex designed and built for the 1929 World Exhibition. The exhibition celebrated Spain's connections with the Americas.
