Corkscrew Hazel

Another backblip.
I don't know whether I've been particularly unobservant in the past but I've previously only noticed catkins on our corkscrew hazel tree.  This year, probably because of the warm sun in February, we have the biggest crop of catkins ever, but I've also noticed these tiny red flowers.  They are no bigger than the size of a pea, and are the female flowers.  Hazels can't pollinate themselves, pollination only occurs between different trees and if the female flowers are successfully pollinated then they will grow into hazelnuts.  So fingers crossed, we had about three hazelnuts last year, so hoping the bees and insects have been visiting.
