Three Witches

She had three Fairy Godmothers and they each gave her a christening gift.

Health, wealth and intelligence.

But were they really Fairy Godmothers? There’s a fine line between a Fairy Godmother and a Witch. Maybe we should just say that they were three old women?

And were the gifts really gifts?

One of the three Old, Fairy Witches wished her well, one wished her ill and one was in two minds about her.

The one who wished her well gave her health. The ambivalent one gave her wealth - and we are sophisticated enough to label that a mixed blessing at best.

The third gave her the curse of intelligence. Ensuring that whenever she did experience the tick-tock of happiness, she would be unable to resist taking that watch to bits to see how it worked. And even if you do manage to put a dismantled watch back together, your confidence in it will inevitability have been undermined.
