Morning in Mellieha
We spent our last morning in Malta exploring the area round the cathedral in Mellieha, having seen it from our balcony and passed it on buses. Couldn’t get into the cathedral itself - it’s a building site right now, and barred off - but we found a lovely little Marian chapel tucked under its southern flank. A nun beckoned us in when we peeped round the door, and we spent some time peering at an exhibition of votive offerings in a sort of catacomb and looking at photos of the restoration work that went on before a visit from Pope John Paul I in the early 1990s.

Now back in London after tiresome flight, with the last leg tomorrow. And that’s my excuse for some feeble syntax in the penultimate paragraph...
