The Fochabers Fizzers Guide to 5K Running Events

So for the athletes amongst you who like to read up and study the pre match preparation of the sporting greats to learn how you can gain an extra bit of speed, or energy, then you'll enjoy this Blip, so read on.

It's been nearly a whole month since we've heard of the latest adventures of our "Kiltwalk Wonder Woman" aka Karen Smith. Karen takes part in Kiltwalks at home and abroad, can rustle up sponsorship and orgasms by just making tablet and when she's not doing this she's more often or not 'celebrating' Kiltwalks, in fact I think with the amount of celebrating she does, she's celebrating for the 1,600 plus people who took part in a Kiltwalk in 2012 :-)

They say those who work hard, play hard and nothing epitomizes this more than our Speyside Kiltwalk Ladies. They take training and fundraising very seriously as witnessed this year as we've watched them rattle out cakes, puddings and soup name of Kiltwalk fundraising.

However there is a more serious side to them as it's no secret that they train hard all year round.

Take the other week for instance. As you can see from today's picture, they think nothing of spending a Sunday taking part in sporting events to keep those well tuned bodies at their peak and here are Tammy and Karen after they have just completed the Winter 5K Challenge in Fochabers, which is challenging enough in the Winter, never mind running in it!!

Now I know you're all thinking "well running 5K on a Sunday morning is not too bad" however can you imagine running it with a hangover? Me neither . . . so listen in.

So do you remember that party hard bit? Well unfortunately the "Fochabers Fizzers" Christmas Dinner was the night before and given it also doubled as Karen's thank you dinner for all the help she had in her fundraising adventures for The Great Wall Kiltwalk, there was never a chance they would think of postponing "fizzing" for a mere 5K Run.

Now before any run they do say it's vital you take plenty of fluid on board. So they kicked off with copious amounts of champagne, and when they started to lag behind it was necessary to move onto shots, which had been brought by Kasia who despite being 100% Polish, just like the Vodka shots, is now a native of Edinburgh and met Karen when they both took part in The Great Wall of China Kiltwalk.

However in addition to fluid it's key that you take stock up on Carbs to get you through those grueling miles so Karen had prepared the obvious pre run meal of Curry!! Which was thoroughly enjoyed by all and it would appear no thought was given to the lack of toilets on Sunday's route, but we'll leave that thought there.

After some very dodgy chair dancing the night progressed not to an early bed, but to the pub, where the local band was playing. Karen decided that a warm up was necessary, however it wasn't of the muscular type but of the vocal cords ,and rumour has it that after her performance she has now added singing at weddings as a further means of raising Kiltwalk funds.

The evening drew to a close when our Kiltwalk Ladies returned home. Some headed to bed and attempted to get some sleep, while others decided it was time for the pre run workout and started to "table dance", as you do.

Now I'm too much of a gentleman to let you into the secret of who has now added 'table dancing' to their repartee, but I'm sure you can guess.

So there you have it, 5K preparation the Speyside Kiltwalk Ladies way!!

If any of you are planning to take part in this year's Speyside event then be careful of befriending this lot as you walk round, as they'll probably still be "fizzing" from the night before :-)
