Dalry PS comes to town! All 51 of them...
What a great group of pupils we had visiting the exhibition day from Dalry PS, North Ayrshire! The P7 pupils made up the biggest group yet. There were 51 of them! They couldn't all fit in the shot.
Dalry PS also has one of the biggest boats in the Boat Shed, made from the school building plans, and lots of little boats, in the Learning Port, all made from the same planning paper. The pupils were delighted to hear that on an earlier visit, Liz Lochhead had loved them and the paper. She's going to create something from the Dalry plans too.
There are so many paper boats from Dalry PS because all of the pupils, from P1-P7, made their own boats, and they did so to the sound of George Wyllie singing his paper Boat Song so they know it well, and today when they were watching the DVD, as soon as the song came on, they were singing away along with it.... We're going to build a Paper Boat, a Paper Boat, Paper Boat...
The pupils listened intently to the DVD, and built more boats in the Learning Port. They each had a favourite scul?ture, and some of them came into the video room to record a message about that.
Then they had to run for their bus, a bit like George Wyllie's Running Clock, out of time. I think the bus drivers are wondering why classes are always longer in the exhibition than planned!
As they were leaving, one of the boys presented me with his Tunnock's paper boat and one of the girls thanked us on behalf of P7. Both gestures much appreciated P7. You're a credit to your school! We had a special visitor with us from Greece today too and she thought you were great. Take a bow, P7!
