Still life

Another nap visit. This one had a different rhythm. My mom was up and walking when I arrived, but I'm not sure she recognized me when I fell in step with her. When we went by her room and I suggested we go in (thinking I'd get her coat so we could go outside), she made straight for the bed and closed her eyes. Only later did she start talking--about her dad, about my shoes, about Longshanks, about a lot of things I couldn't understand.

Soon after I took this photo she pursed her lips and tried whistling at Longshanks. After several failed attempts she said, "No, nothing comes. Just wind."
