The Coogate

Edinburgh's Cow Gate is situated in the old town, and is a main thoroughfare between the Grassmarket (scene of public executions for centuries) and the Holyrood area (an area with a bloody history all of its own) - but these days it's a very popular area for bars and nightclubs.

Cows like these appear in many crazy locations all over the city - the remnants of an art project where groups bought, designed and displayed the large fibreglass beasts. It makes more sense than you'd imagine...
