Sultan

Another beautiful sunny day in South Wales and I headed to the outskirts of Caerphilly to grab an aerial photograph of the sculpture of Sultan The Pit Pony at Park Penallta.

This prancing pony is a 200 metre long raised-earth artwork by Mick Petts that was completed over a period of 3 years. The earthwork is a homage to the pit pony, the last of which was retired in 1999. These animals were used to haul containers of coal in underground coal mines, and the locals later dubbed Mick Petts work ‘Sultan’ after a particularly famous local pit pony. It also acts as a windbreaker for events held in the park!

Ideal to fit the theme of Wide Wednesday challenge this week.

This afternoon it was a visit to Bristol to see granddaughter Imogen, born on 20 December last year. She's doing well and loves looking around as the photo' in the extra shows.
