WIDE WEDNESDAY - BEACH HUTS AT MUDEFORD SPIT
I was wondering what to do for today’s challenge, when a photograph came up in my Facebook memories of the beach huts at Mudeford Spit - taken on 15th November 2010 - the top shot.
The middle photograph is the same photograph but taken from a book entitled “Dorset - A Photographic Journey in an Olympic Year”. You may know that we used to visit Boscombe in Dorset quite a lot where our son and his wife had an apartment at Honeycombe Beach - hence my username!
When we were down there we would often walk along the beach to Hengistbury Head and then on to Mudeford Spit and, of course, I always used to take lots of photographs, including this one of the beach huts, which are probably some of the most expensive in the country.
In 2018, one of these wooden huts, measuring only 16 feet by 10 feet sold for £285,000! I think this particular one even had a toilet, so the owners wouldn’t need to use the communal one in the nearby shower block! If you would like to see more, have a look here.
When the local paper, the Dorset Echo, was asking for local photographs to go in a book they were publishing in 2012, the year the Olympics were held in the UK, I submitted several and this one was chosen. We were given one free book but had to pay for any others we wanted - a bit of a cheek really, especially as none of the photographs in the book were paid for by the Dorset Echo. I suppose the good thing is that they did acknowledge and give credit that it was my photograph!
The bottom shot is one I took of a painting of these very beach huts, done by fellow Blipper and friend, Tinkerbelle who, having seen my original photograph, asked if she could paint it and then kindly send it to us. It now adorns our “Tinkerbelle” wall in the lounge, with two other original paintings done by her.
Had a good morning at the radio station this morning on the “Girls About Town” programme when Laura Burton, an author, was the guest. It was very interesting to hear that she writes books that are classed as “clean and wholesome” - quite a difference from some of the books on offer today that are anything but!
When the programme finished, I met another "more mature" lady who was interested in my Street Challenge, and wondered if I would like to be interviewed about it, so she found a studio and 20 minutes later interview done - talk about a busy life!
It is another beautiful sunny day so after a busy and exciting morning an afternoon in the conservatory doing some knitting will suit me. Mr. HCB is going off with our older son to a football match this evening - Chelsea v Tottenham Hotspurs (Mr. HCB’s team) so an evening to myself too. What bliss.
