My Great Success Story

Knysna Elephants

Exactly a year and one day after our encounter with Asian elephants we were meeting their larger cousins for the first time. Both times we were feeding them and walking around, a great experience.

Travel Diary:
Knysna Elephant Park: Courtney and I went on a tour in the Knysna elephant park. We watched a video and then jumped on a tractor trailer to a feeding area. We had buckets of food, tiny in comparison to the huge bins we had last year in Thailand for the Asian elephants. After we had fed them, a guide showed us around, letting us touch and take photos with the elephants. They weren't the biggest African elephants but the largest was still bigger than the Chiang Mai ones, if I remember right.

Around Knysna: We drove into Knysna and took a walk by the estuary, looking into rock pools at the large starfish. We had a wander down a coastal path before heading back into Knysna waterfront for a look at the shops and an ice cream.

Plettenberg: Again, we had a drive to Plett, having a look at all the closed shops and Internet cafe, as well as the other beach.

Back at the complex we played a couple of games of "putt putt", mini golf. Jean and Courtney winning a game each, despite the fact Phil is definitely the most experienced and I'm a distant second. I did achieve a hole in one though.

After the golf, we attempted a braii, though the the grill was really close the coals, causing the chicken to burn outside, remaining pink in the middle and apparently the boererwors to dry out. After a quick blast of the chicken in the microwave, it still tasted good to me.
