Progress...?

Gorgeous sunny morning, coffee on the balcony accompanied by the noise of workmen chainsawing down a big tree and feeding it into the chipper. The tree sat at the entrance to a desultory industrial estate on Dock Street, long abandoned and awaiting the coming of an Aldi. This will be a good thing and the plans indicate it will be a low level building unlike the monstrosities imposed on Leith Walk so I guess we should be thankful. And I suppose it's better they bring the tree down before the nesting season kicks in. But. It was a big, mature, splash of green in an urban jungle and they'll almost definitely replace it with something cheap and souless like leylandii.  So, mixed feelings about this. Not to mention the irony of being bathed in warm sunshine in February whilst watching folk chopping down the planet's lungs.
