In the mood

Sainsbury's really got me in the mood for Christmas when I paid a visit this evening.

The nylon-bearded skinny santa pushing what can only be described as a sleigh of trolleys from one shelter to another was a stroke of festive genius.

Then, once inside, 'Do They Know It's Christmas' playing on some kind of ironic loop was a daring choice to encourage shoppers to spend, spend, spend on cheap chocolates, fattening snacks and too much alcohol.

The man with the huge dangly purple nose who helped me pack had such an air of new year melancholy cheer about him you'd think it was the 7th of January already.



Still, Champagne was on special offer.
