Rivington

Along with several hundred other people, we thought we'd make the best of the spring like day and walk up to Rivington Pike. On the way we passed Pigeon Tower, which looks like a fairytale folly but is actually a dovecot. It was built in 1910 by Lord Leverhulme of Lever Brothers and Port Sunlight fame who owned the estate. Apparently only the first two floors were home to doves and pigeons, and at the top was a sitting room that was used as a lookout over the boating lake and a sewing and music room. There is certainly a grand view over the moors towards Blackburn.
