How to get a narrow boat through a tunnel too small for a horse to go through... lie on top of the boat and walk your feet along the tunnel walls!

Just one of the interesting things we learnt on our walk today exploring the varied crossings of the Pennines. We had originally planned to meet my parents in Manchester but with such a good forecast we all quickly agreed that we needed to be exploring the great outdoors. Saddleworth is a place I only ever see from the motorway, and it's generally pretty bleak up there. Today however was like a summers day, I should have taken the sun screen! We've explored Roman forts, Roman roads, Turnpike, railway tunnels, canal crossing and thoroughly enjoyed it all. The icing on the cake was an early tea in the Limekiln Café at the end of the walk before crossing back to the right side of the Pennines. Is it really February?!
