Malt Shovel

The Malt Shovel at Burley-in-Wharfedale
was completely rebuilt in 1880, in “Jacobethan” revival style.
The owners hoped to attract tourists who were coming to Wharfedale on the railway, which opened in 1865. Unfortunately it didn't work out as expected - the tourists went to nearby Ilkley instead which was developing as a Spa Town.
Over the years the Malt Shovel struggled, and housed several restaurants and pub businesses until it closed completey in 2012.  Now converted into four townhouses.
It's a Grade II listed building and I have to say still looks quite impressive - pity it's not a thriving hotel.
