Every Day Heroes
I spent much of the day at an impact and action event on the reports and recommendations of Every Day Heroes. This was devised and developed by young people with a passion about improving systems and ensuring the gender based violence and inequalities are tackled.
We heard about their recommendations in the field of justice and children’s hearings; in the provision of services; and in respect of societal attitudes. Some emotional moments as stories were relived - for example the young girl being abused who was not listened to or believed for 11 years: but was sent home from school for wearing too much make up.
Lots of recommendations for all of us to consider. The young people have met Ministers and MSPs to present their case. And the Solicitor General for Scotland who today reprised her role by wearing her superhero mask as she delivered her pledge. (Out of courtesy I will refrain from posting the photo! Alison is in the bottom left of the graphic image - without mask)
Much for us to think about and for the sharing of good practice and developments. An inspiring event and lessons to learn for our system as our own version of a forum for young people - Our Hearings Our Voice takes root.
Back home and th delights to f having all areas of underfloor heating working was short-lived as the boiler suddenly started to trip the fuse circuits. Despite the electrician coming out we have no hot water or central or underfloor heating. Hopefully they will sort it tomorrow. At least it is mild for the time of year.
