Computer problems

A day of computer problems. Took my iPhone into Stirling to have battery replaced only to be told when they opened it up that there was water in it.
Yes I did spill some water the other day but quickly wiped it off.

However, such is Apple strict replacement policy that they will not change a battery if they find anything wrong when its opened up.
Meanwhile the phone is working well except the battery does not last long. 
So that is the dilemma : what to do ? its resale value is £60 - if I am lucky.
