Origin unknown

This ornament is on the family heirloom dresser.  Apparently (according to my husband and his parents and grandmother) it has always stood on the top shelf.  It is battered and chipped but still quite attractive.  I often wonder how it came to be on the dresser.

Have been trying to get tickets for the Christian Dior Exhibition at the V & A Exhibition, but can't get any for the dates my friends and I want to go.  It is on until July but the tickets went on sale in September - obviously left it too late.
