Auschwitz

Mounds of human hair.
A huge jumble of old shoes.
Tonnes of human ashes dumped in rivers, fertilising fields and dropped in vast pits.

Things that had shocking impact. But too many people to feel raw emotion.

It's an exhausting but worthwhile trip to bring the unbelievable and incomprehensible into disturbing reality.

It's a day when I don't really feel like saving a moment. I barely took a photo but the four headstone memorial next to one of two huge ash pits dug to contain the ashes that overflowed the camp felt appropriate.

"To the memory of the men, women and children who fell victim to the Nazi genocide. Here lie their ashes.  May their souls rest in peace."

We've ended the day at another wonderful eatery reflecting on some of what we've seen, before nipping to the square for some lighter atmosphere and then crashing for the night.
