Less town, More ghost-town

My failure to get to Wex today due to an event at the East London Mosque, led me back to Wapping.

I spent some of the happiest years of my life working for The Times in this area. We started out in the Rum Warehouse, then moved to Times House on The Highway. After I resumed my photography career I visited the paper in Thomas More Square, before the moved out of the area and to London Bridge.

Now the 'fortress' is being developed into housing and Thomas More Square seems to have been renamed 'More Town'. For a while new businesses seem to have sprung up, but now most of the units are deserted.

To my delight Waitrose is still there and bustling with millennials. The atmosphere inside smelling warm and familiar. Bringing back memories of the grocery dash after the paper is 'off stone'.

Pumblechooks cafe is still there and the pub has been renamed. How quickly things change.

I remember when Soho House was only one building in Greek Street!
