Featherstone War Horse

Whilst out today and just by chance we drove past this wonderful piece of art;  for once there was a place to stop nearby and no-one around to photo-bomb my shots.

This sculpture honours WW1 sacrifice, and commemorates 353 soldiers from the town of Featherstone who lost their lives in the First World War.  It stands tall above 353 trees, commemorating each of the Featherstone men who died during the First World War. The sculpture, designed by Bristol company Cod Steaks Ltd., also pays tribute to the role horses played in the town’s farming and mining past. 

The four-tonne piece of art is 20' high and made its way from Bristol to the town on the back of a trailer before being lifted by a crane into its new home at Mill Pond Meadow.
