The Extinction Rebellion movement started in Stroud. The original 'hippy car' and tent were pitched on land that belonged to Gloucestershire County Council, but they were evicted recently.
So they've relocated to the South side of the canal, to land that is probably owned by Stroud town council (we're not sure).

When I passed by, on a sunny afternoon, a festival atmosphere was evident. Crowds of people were weaving a willow structure on the bank. Children were running around, while a man sat on a bench by the canal, observing, unperturbed.I'd hoped to return with my charges, on the way back from school, but they chose a different route.

Market in the morning, kids after school: they even changed into shorts, played outside, and demanded that they eat dinner in a tent, in mess tins!
